Mom culture is something I struggle with on and off. It seems everyone around us makes it into such a competition between Moms. That mom looks the greatest. That Mom does every Pinterest craft that exists and her house is spotless. That Mom is a stay at home Mom. There's the working Mom. That Mom lost all the baby weight.
It seems innately difficult not to compare yourself to every other Mom around and not see flaws in your mothering. Us working Moms seem to struggle with Mom culture even more. We do everything a stay at home Mom does in less time because we're at work the rest of the time. Then we're trying to keep up with the stay at home Moms.
It's easy to think that since we're home less with our kids that we somehow don't match up to other Moms. But guess what? We do match up! Damn right we do!
I have to remind myself, rather frequently I might add, that I do add up. I am a Mom and a damn good Mom at that. Yes, my house is a disaster, but when we're home we're living in it. Yes I don't always get the laundry folded, but it is washed and clean. Yes I don't make every field trip or party, but when I am off we go out as a family to those same places. Yes I'm not the skiniest Mom, but my kids love me skinny or fat (or anywhere inbetween).
I AM A MOM! So go ahead and compare me with all the other Moms around me, just make sure I can't hear you, as I want no knowing part in that kind of Mom culture and I hope other Moms out there can say the same.
